OUR
HISTORY

Culture Brazilian Jiu Jitsu opened its doors in July 2022 with a simple mission. To build a community where people of all ages can grow stronger, more confident, and more connected through the art of Jiu Jitsu. What began as a small group of passionate students quickly grew into a family-driven academy built on community, discipline, and respect.

Founded by Keilan and Nikki Dodson, Culture was created to be more than just a place to train. It’s a place where coaches care deeply, teammates push each other to improve, and every student is encouraged to become the best version of themselves on and off the mats. From kids taking their first class to adults chasing new goals, Culture BJJ continues to represent what its name stands for: a positive, supportive culture that uplifts everyone who walks through the door.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submissions. It emphasizes technique and leverage, allowing a smaller person to defend against and overcome a larger opponent using joint locks and chokeholds.

What are the benefits of training Jiu Jitsu?

BJJ improves fitness, discipline, confidence, mental focus, and stress relief. It builds problem-solving skills and offers a strong community environment. For kids, it also teaches respect, perseverance, and goal setting.

Do I need to be in shape to start Jiu Jitsu?

Not at all. You’ll get in shape by training! Jiu Jitsu is for all fitness levels and body types. Everyone starts somewhere, and classes are designed to help you gradually build strength, flexibility, and endurance.

How often should I train?

This is totally up to you! For beginners, 2–3 times per week is ideal. It allows enough time to build consistency and learn without feeling overwhelmed. As you progress, you can train more often based on your goals.

What’s the difference between Gi and NoGi Jiu Jitsu?

In Gi Jiu Jitsu, students wear a traditional uniform (called a Gi), and grips on the clothing are part of the techniques. In NoGi, students wear athletic wear (like rash guards and shorts), and grips are based solely on the body. Both styles teach the same core principles but offer different experiences.

Is Jiu Jitsu safe?

Yes! When taught in a structured and supportive environment like ours, Jiu Jitsu is very safe. Our coaches focus on discipline, respect, and proper technique, ensuring everyone learns in a positive and controlled setting.

What should I wear to my first class?

If you don’t have a Gi, wear athletic clothing like a t-shirt and shorts or leggings with no zippers or pockets. We have loaner Gis available for first-time students.

Can girls/women train Jiu Jitsu too?

Absolutely! BJJ is for everyone. It’s especially empowering for women and girls because it teaches effective self-defense, confidence, and discipline in a supportive community.

We proudly serve the Yukon, Mustang, and West Oklahoma City communities, providing top-quality Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing training for all ages.
